WideView

Privacy policy

Last updated: October 19, 2026. This policy covers the WideView website (wideview.various-dye.workers.dev) and the WideView browser extension (all versions; where versions differ, this page says so). Questions: chalbidu@gmail.com.

In short

WideView collects as little as possible. We don't ask for your name or account details, and we don't store raw IP addresses, browsing history, the pages you visit or the videos you watch. (The one exception: a one-way, keyed hash of your network address, kept for 30 days to allow one free website trial code per network. See below.) We don't ask for your email on our site; if you buy Pro, Stripe collects your email for the receipt and we can see it in our Stripe account. What we count is kept minimal: mostly totals of page views, clicks and trial steps, plus a random session id outside the EU/UK (see The website). Card payments go to Stripe, never to us.

The extension

WideView works inside your browser. Your mode, zoom, presets, Pro license code and free-trial dates are kept in the extension's own storage on your device. Video files, page content, viewing history and video URLs stay in your browser and are never sent to us.

The extension contacts only our server, and only for these reasons:

  • License check: it sends only your license or recovery code, so we can confirm Pro is active. Nothing else goes with it. To count active installs once a day, the server keeps a short one-way hash of the code for that day only.
  • Signup code: if you enter a WideView signup code in the extension, it sends only that code to our server, which swaps it for a license code. The server doesn't keep the code or any identifier with it.
  • Card-trial activation (version 3.2.5): this version creates a random install id (32 random characters, kept in the extension's storage). If you choose the card trial from the extension, it opens our website with the install id in the link, and while it waits for your checkout to finish it sends only the install id to our server, so Pro can switch on without copying a code. Our server does not store the install id itself.
  • Four anonymous usage events (version 3.2.6 and later): free days started, last free day, free days over, and “Get Pro” clicked. Each event contains only the event name, where in the extension it happened (for example popup), and the extension version. There is no install id or any other identifier, no license code, no page or video, no URL. Our server only adds one to a daily count and a running total; it stores no IP address, user agent or identifier with them.

Version 3.2.4 and earlier make only the license check and signup-code calls.

Turning usage events off. In Chrome, Edge, Brave and Safari, open WideView's options page and untick Send anonymous usage events (no personal data) for these extension events. It is on by default. When it is off, no events are sent and any waiting events are deleted at once. In Firefox, the same checkbox controls Firefox's own Technical and interaction data setting, which you can also change at install or in about:addons → WideView → Permissions and data. Every feature, including the free trial, works the same either way.

If the network is down, up to 20 events wait on your device and are retried at most 3 times, then dropped.

Free 3-day trial (no card)

Tap Try 3 days free in the WideView toolbar popup. No card, no auto-charge. The extension stores the start and end time on your device and unlocks Fill, Stretch, Zoom and presets for 72 hours. Starting it does not contact our server and needs no account, email or payment details. After 72 hours those features stop on their own and the video goes back to Original. Nothing is charged. Each install can use the free 3 days once.

The website's Try 3 days free button gives you a trial code instead. To allow one free code per network, our server keeps a one-way, keyed hash of your network address (never the address itself) with your trial code and the trial's start and end time for 30 days. Your network address means your IPv4 address or, for IPv6, its first 64 bits (the part your internet provider assigns to your connection), so devices sharing one connection count as one network. We do this to prevent trial abuse, which is our legitimate interest; the hash can't be turned back into your address and is deleted after 30 days.

The website

The site counts page views and a few steps (visit, download, install click, trial click, checkout) so we can see which pages help people get started. For each step it records only: the time, a source or campaign tag from the link, browser family and OS family (not the full user agent), the country from Cloudflare, the referring site's domain (not the full address), and a flag for our own test visits.

Session id. Outside the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland, your browser keeps a random session id (wvSid in local storage) so we can tell one visit from several. It is a random number. It isn't linked to your name or email unless you buy Pro, in which case it is attached to your Stripe checkout (see Payments). Visitors from the EU, EEA, UK, Switzerland, or an unknown country get no session id: none is stored in the browser and none is sent. The daily totals record only how many steps had a session id, not the id itself.

We do not store IP addresses, raw user agents, names, emails or other personal identifiers with these counts. Your IP address is used for a moment by Cloudflare to limit abusive traffic and is not saved with them. Counts expire after about 13 months.

The site also stores in your browser: the source tag of the link you came from (for this visit only), a random checkout attempt id (reused for up to 20 hours so a double click doesn't start two checkouts), and, after a purchase, your recovery code so the site can show it to you again. Testers who open a page with ?qa=1 get a wv_qa cookie that marks their visits as tests.

Payments (Stripe)

Stripe is our payment processor. Card and billing details go directly to Stripe; WideView never receives full card numbers. With a checkout we send Stripe only the offer, a one-way hash of the random checkout attempt id, the source tag of the link you came from, and a flag for our own test purchases. We never send your install id to Stripe. If you came from our site and you're outside the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland, your random session id may be attached to the checkout so we can see which visits lead to purchases. This links that visit's anonymous counts to your purchase record. Stripe's privacy policy: stripe.com/privacy.

Hosting

The website and server run on Cloudflare, which may process standard connection data (such as IP address and request details) to deliver the service and protect it from abuse. That is separate from the anonymous counts above.

Retention

Visit counts: about 13 months. Website no-card trial records and the network hash: 30 days. Daily license-check hashes: one day. Purchase records, including the email Stripe collects for your receipt: as needed to provide Pro, handle refunds and meet accounting duties. Data on your device stays there until you clear it or remove the extension.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing chalbidu@gmail.com. If you are in the EU or UK you also have rights under the GDPR / UK GDPR, including the right to complain to your local supervisory authority. Contact us first and we will try to help.

Children

WideView is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
